GS: What does out of left field mean to you?
JR: Unexpected. Surprising. Innovative. While routine and ritual are the basic components of sport - like swinging a bat or dribbling a ball - innovation is the foundation on which sports were created and how they continue to evolve.
Jeffrey Rose is a New York City based photographer. This series is part of a larger project on NYC’s unique basketball community which will soon be made into a book.
